Bhopal model Khushboo Verma (27) died under suspicious circumstances on Monday. The short post-mortem report revealed that she was pregnant and her fallopian tube had ruptured, confirming death due to pregnancy complications. Her boyfriend, Qasim, is in police custody and is being interrogated. The investigation continues to determine if foul play was involved. Boyfriend in police custody Qasim and Khushboo were in a live-in relationship for one and a half years. Qasim claims he is innocent and has denied any assault. A separate liquor smuggling case is registered against him in Lateri. Qasim is originally from Ujjain. Incident details Khushboo was taken to Ujjain by Qasim to meet his family. On their return, her health suddenly deteriorated on the bus. The bus stopped near a hospital, and Qasim took her to the hospital by auto-rickshaw. Khushboo died there. Qasim told the police that the child in Khushboo’s womb was his. He said they had known each other for two years, met at a lounge, and later connected on social media. They began living together 16 months ago and were planning to marry. Qasim says he never assaulted Khushboo. Injuries on Khushboo’s body Khushboo’s elder sister, Kajal Ahirwar, said that her father had passed away and Khushboo was the youngest of three sisters. She said there were injury marks on Khushboo’s face and body. Kajal also mentioned that Qasim had assaulted Khushboo earlier during a dispute involving Qasim’s friend’s wife in Lateri, two months ago. Living situation and background Khushboo and Qasim lived together in Bhanpur Multi, Bhopal. Their flat has been locked for about a month and a half. Qasim was jailed for liquor smuggling, after which Khushboo stayed at her mother’s home in Mandi Bamora. Once Qasim was released, they resumed living together. Khushboo had completed BA first year but dropped out. She had lived in Bhopal for three years, modelling for several local brands. She also worked a part-time job to manage her expenses. She often spoke to her mother about achieving greater success in life. Qasim’s actions and CCTV evidence CCTV footage shows Qasim taking Khushboo to the hospital on a stretcher. Her mother said that on the way from Ujjain to Bhopal, Khushboo’s health deteriorated, and Qasim admitted her to the hospital. However, after seeing her unconscious, he fled. Police registered a case of unnatural death and began an investigation. Post-mortem report DCP Zone-4, Mayur Khandelwal, said the short post-mortem report confirmed that Khushboo’s death was due to pregnancy complications. No injuries were confirmed on her body. Qasim is still being interrogated.
