The price of a domestic vegetarian thali in Indian households has decreased by 17% (annually) now at ₹27.8 in October. Last year in October 2024, the price of a veg thali was Rs 33.3. Capital market company Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited (CRISIL) provided this information in its monthly indicator of food plate cost. CRISIL stated in its Rice Roti Rate (RRR) report that the price of a vegetarian thali decreased by 1% in October compared to September. In September, the price of a veg thali was Rs 28.1. Non-veg Thali also became 12% cheaper Meanwhile, the price of a non-veg thali decreased by 12% on an annual basis to Rs 54.4 in October. Last year in October 2024, the price of a non-veg thali was Rs 61.6. On a monthly basis, meaning compared to September, the price of a non-veg thali decreased by 3% in October. How the prices of veg and non-veg thali increased-decreased in a year Source – CRISIL Vegetable Thali Prices Decreased Due to Cheaper Potatoes, Onions, and Tomatoes According to the CRISIL report, the cost of a vegetarian thali has decreased due to a fall in the prices of potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and pulses. Tomato prices have fallen by 40% year-on-year, onion prices by 51%, and potato prices by 31%. Meanwhile, pulse prices have also seen a 17% decline. Due to these reasons, the price of a vegetarian thali has decreased. Potatoes and tomatoes account for a 24% share in the cost of a vegetarian thali. Non-veg Thali Price Decreased Due to Falling Chicken Prices This reduction in the price of non-veg thali is due to a 6% year-on-year fall in the price of broilers, i.e., chicken. Broilers account for 50% of the cost of a non-veg thali. Meanwhile, the price of vegetable oil increased by 11% and LPG cylinder by 6% on a year-on-year basis, otherwise both thalis could have been even cheaper.
