The world’s largest cricket stadium, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, is set to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final, as per reports ahead of the official schedule announcement. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to reveal the full schedule of the much-awaited tournament in the coming days. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalised a plan to conduct the tournament across fewer cities this time, ensuring that each selected venue gets a minimum of six matches. The move comes after discussions held among top BCCI officials to streamline logistics and improve crowd management. The 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, marking another major ICC event in the subcontinent following India’s successful hosting of the 2023 ODI World Cup. BCCI finalised key venues in India According to the reports of The Indian Express, the BCCI has shortlisted Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai as the main Indian venues for the tournament. Ahmedabad is the front-runner to host the grand final, while other major cities will host group and knockout matches. In addition to these Indian venues, three stadiums in Sri Lanka are expected to host matches as part of the co-hosting arrangement. However, the exact venues in Sri Lanka are yet to be confirmed. Interestingly, Bengaluru and Lucknow might not feature in the final list of host cities this time, as the board aims to restrict the number of venues to maintain scheduling efficiency and reduce travel fatigue for teams. IND-PAK clash in neutral venue, if Pakistan reach final The ICC has also laid out some special conditions for knockout fixtures. If Sri Lanka qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play their match in Colombo. Similarly, if Pakistan reaches the final, the summit clash will be moved to a neutral venue, rather than being played in India. Meanwhile, the iconic India vs Pakistan group-stage match will also be played in Colombo, following an earlier agreement between the BCCI and PCB that both teams would play their bilateral or ICC matches in a third nation due to political tensions. India chose Ahmedabad to host 2030 Commonwealth Games Ahmedabad, the capital city of Gujarat, is all set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following a formal recommendation from the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport. The final confirmation will take place at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, UK, on November 26, but with the Board’s approval, Ahmedabad has emerged as the clear frontrunner to host the historic centenary edition of the Games. The Commonwealth Games, held every four years, is one of the world’s major multi-sport events, featuring athletes from the 56 member nations of the Commonwealth of Nations. Hosting the 2030 edition would mark a significant milestone for India, as it continues to strengthen its global sports presence. Tournament expected to begin in early 2026 The T20 World Cup 2026 is expected to begin in early 2026, with India submitting the proposed schedule to the ICC. This edition is likely to feature exciting new rivalries, packed stadiums, and a grand finale in Ahmedabad, a fitting stage for one of cricket’s biggest spectacles.
