negligence-in-‘sir’-drive,-bhopal-collector-dismisses-blo:skips-first-day-of-door-to-door-voter-survey;-others-warned-of-strict-action

Bhopal has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list — a large-scale door-to-door verification drive — from Tuesday. The campaign began with top officials, including the Collector, SDMs, Tehsildars, Nayab Tehsildars, Supervisors, and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), visiting households to distribute voter forms. However, the very first day saw disciplinary action against an official for negligence. Collector dismisses absentee BLO Bhopal Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh dismissed Assistant Grade-3 employee Prashant Dubey, who was assigned to Booth No. 150 in Govindpura Assembly. Dubey, who works at Barkatullah University, failed to report for duty on the first day of the voter survey. The Collector confirmed that Dubey’s services had been terminated for dereliction of duty. “A list of other employees showing negligence in this crucial exercise is also being prepared. Strict action, including dismissal, will be taken against them,” Singh said. Over 2,000 BLOs and 250 supervisors deployed According to officials, 2,029 BLOs and 250 supervisors have been assigned to carry out the SIR survey in Bhopal. Each BLO will visit every household up to three times, providing and collecting the “Enumeration Sheet” (Ganana Patrak), which comes in duplicate — one copy for the voter and one for the BLO. Bhopal district currently has around 21 lakh registered voters. Collector Singh personally visited several booths in the Huzur Assembly constituency on Tuesday to monitor progress. The drive will continue for about a month, with door-to-door visits for the next five to six days, followed by the collection and verification of forms. First door-to-door survey since 2003 This is the first voter list verification exercise of its kind since 2003. Voters whose names are missing from the 2003 list but present in the current one will be required to specify whose name from their family appeared in the older roll. BLOs will verify the information based on the forms submitted. Only verified entries will be retained in the final list. No documents required from voters Collector Singh clarified that no documents will be collected during the process. “Verification will be done solely on the basis of the enumeration sheet provided to each household,” he said. Officers found neglecting their duties will face disciplinary action. How the SIR survey works Each BLO will hand out a Ganana Patrak to every voter. The form includes personal details such as name, address, age, and EPIC number. Voters must also mention if a family member has passed away, shifted residence, or is registered in another state. In such cases, the Assembly-level officer (SDM) will issue a notice to verify relevant documents.
