On Saturday morning, BCCI updated in its press release that Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the Sydney Hospital. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today. Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same. Yet to fly back to India As per the latest update, Shreyas Iyer will be staying in Australia until he is deemed fit to fly. “The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” the press release read. When will Iyer return to India? As per the latest third medical update from the BCCI, there is no specific timeframe provided for Shreyas Iyer’s return. However, during the Bhaskar English Exclusive, former IPL physio Saif Naqvi stated that usually it takes more than two months of recovery in case of spleen laceration that India ODI vice captain sustained in the third ODI. So there are chances that Iyer will miss the whole home series against South Africa in November. Along with it, he is also expected to be in and out of the ODI series that is going to take place against New Zealand in January 2026.
