India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in Dubai to win the Asia Cup but declined to accept the trophy from Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. India captain Suryakumar Yadav had refused to shake hands with his Pakistani counterpart amid political tensions. More than a month after the triumph, the silverware is still with Pakistan. BCCI ready to take matter to ICC “Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month,” BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI Video. “We are pursuing this matter, about 10 days ago we also wrote a letter to the chairman of ACC, but there is no change in their stand. “They are still keeping the trophy under their custody but we hope that the trophy will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai.” Saikia confirmed that if there is no resolution, the BCCI may be forced to raise it with the ICC in the meeting on November 4. Delayed trophy presentation in Dubai It is pertinent to note that the trophy presentation in Dubai was delayed by over an hour. Ultimately, the Indian side celebrated without the silverware. While the BCCI had officially requested its return, Naqvi has reportedly suggested that Indian players collect it in person at a future event. Mohsin Naqvi moves Asia Cup trophy to Abu Dhabi Earlier, it was also reported that the trophy had been moved to an unspecified location in Abu Dhabi. There were also instructions not to give the trophy to anyone without the permission of Naqvi. All of this, fuelled by the ACC chairman’s adamant stance, seems to have added to the frustration of BCCI.
