West Indies continued their strong run in the T20 series against Bangladesh with a 14-run win in the second match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday. With this victory, the visitors took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Romario Shepherd was the star performer, taking three crucial wickets to earn the Player of the Match award. Batting first, West Indies posted a total of 149 for 9 in their 20 overs. Despite a few early hiccups, the team managed to build a strong platform through steady half-centuries from Alick Athanaze and captain Shai Hope. In response, Bangladesh fell short of the target, managing only 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets, as Shepherd and Akeal Hosein dismantled their middle order. This win marks the second consecutive triumph for West Indies in the series, following their 16-run win in the first T20. They now head into the final match with the series already secured, while Bangladesh will look for a consolation victory in the third game. Athanaze-Hope shine with half-centuries After winning the toss and opting to bat, West Indies got off to a shaky start, losing opener Brandon King for just one run with the team score at 1. However, Shai Hope and Alick Athanaze steadied the innings with a solid partnership. Both batters brought up their fifties, displaying good control and timing against Bangladesh’s spinners and pacers. Athanaze scored 52 and Hope made 55 before both fell in quick succession, leading to a mini-collapse. The middle and lower order struggled to maintain momentum, with Roston Chase (17) and Romario Shepherd (13) adding some valuable runs late in the innings. The team eventually finished with 149 for 9. Mustafizur leads Bangladesh’s bowling For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 21. Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain claimed two wickets each, while Taskin Ahmed took one. The rest of the bowlers failed to make an impact as West Indies managed to reach a competitive total. Tanzid Hasan fights alone in Bangladesh’s chase Chasing 150, Bangladesh got off to a slow and shaky start. Saif Hassan fell for 5 in the fourth over, and captain Liton Das (23) was bowled by Akeal Hosein after a brief partnership. Tanzid Hasan Tamim held the innings together with a fighting 61, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. None of the other batters could stay long enough to support him, and Bangladesh finished 14 runs short of the target. For West Indies, Shepherd and Hosein took three wickets each, while Jason Holder chipped in with two. The visitors’ disciplined bowling and tight fielding ensured another comfortable victory. Third T20 in Chattogram on October 31 The third and final T20 will also be played in Chattogram on October 31. With the series already in the bag, West Indies will aim for a clean sweep, while Bangladesh will look to end the series on a positive note with a win in the final game.
