An empty gas tanker exploded during welding at a workshop in Kheda, Itarsi, on Tuesday evening, seriously injuring 8 people who were admitted to government and private hospitals. The tanker had previously carried ethane gas for Indian Oil from Narsinghpur and was brought to the workshop for repair after being emptied. As soon as the accident was reported, SDOP Virendra Mishra, Police Station In-charge Gaurav Singh Bundela reached the government hospital. He informed that work was being done on the tanker’s spring. During this, the battery cabin exploded due to earthing. Investigation is ongoing. Police are investigating whether safety standards were followed while welding the empty tanker.
