Amazon to lay off 30,000 employees:Will reduce 10% of total headcount from various departments including HR and operations

E-commerce company Amazon is going to lay off 30,000 of its corporate employees. This makes 10% of its total headcount. Company has a total of 3.5 lakh corporate employees. These layoffs in the company are happening in departments such as People Experience and Technology (HR), Devices and Services, and Operations. This step has been taken to improve operations and balance the over-hiring that occurred during the peak demand of the pandemic. A total of 15.50 lakh employees work at Amazon. Managers of the affected teams were trained on Monday so they could be prepared to inform the laid-off employees. Employees will start receiving email notifications from Tuesday morning. CEO had created an anonymous complaint line CEO Andy Jassy had said that with the increasing use of AI tools, there is a possibility of further job reductions, especially in tasks that involve repetition and routine work. Earlier this year, they created an anonymous complaint line to note down those who were not working, which received approximately 1,500 reactions. These warehouses will be designed for superfast delivery. The company’s robotics team’s final plan is to automate 75% of operations.
