shreyas-iyer-admitted-to-icu-in-sydney-with-internal-bleeding:india-vice-captain-had-sustained-rib-injury-during-third-odi-vs-australia

Shreyas Iyer, India’s ODI vice-captain, is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of a Sydney hospital. He sustained a rib cage injury while running back from backward point to take a catch off Alex Carey during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on Saturday (October 25). Iyer appeared to be in visible pain on the field and was immediately taken off the field. Rushed to hospital, internal bleeding detected Medical scans revealed internal bleeding, forcing Iyer’s immediate hospitalisation. He ICU for the past couple of days, a PTI report confirms citing sources, adding that he will remain under observation for two to seven days, depending on his recovery. What exactly led to Iyer’s injury? During the third ODI in Sydney, the Australian was looking strong while batting first. They had reached 184 runs for the loss of three wickets in 33.3 overs. In the meantime, on the fourth ball of Harshit Rana’s over, Alex Carey attempted an inside-out shot but mistimed the stroke. Iyer, fielding at backward point, reacted quickly and ran back to take a brilliant catch but ended up injuring himself. BCCI medical team acted swiftly The Indian team doctor and physio responded quickly after Iyer’s vital parameters fluctuated. “The team didn’t take any chances and admitted him immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been serious. He’s a tough lad and should be fine soon,” the source said. Extended recovery period likely The 30-year-old was initially expected to be out of action for about three weeks but the internal bleeding may extend his recovery. The 30-year-old is likely to stay in Sydney under medical supervision for at least a week before being cleared to travel back to India. He is not part of India’s T20 squad.
