Jabalpur police recovers stolen gold, silver and cash worth ₹41L:Accused held by cops from Chhattisgarh; move comes under state-wide anti-theft drive

The Madhya Pradesh Police, following directives issued by the state’s Director General of Police( DGP), Kailash Makwana, have picked pace in their statewide campaign against property-related crimes such as theft, burglary, robbery and snatching, the officials from MP Police Headquarters (PHQ) said on Saturday. As per officials the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all the districts of the state have been instructed to ensure strict monitoring, swift action, and prevention of repeat offences. As part of this campaign, MP’s Jabalpur Police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a man involved in a high-value theft and recovered gold and silver jewellery worth ₹41 lakh, along with ₹61,000 in cash. Accused held from Chhattisgarh The operation, as per senior PHQ officials, was carried out by the Gorakhpur Police Station team of Jabalpur. The theft took place at the residence of Lakshmi Sharma (77), near Indra School in the Gorakhpur area of Jabalpur. By utilising the scientific and technical evidence, including CCTV footage and intelligence inputs, police identified the suspect and arrested him from Konda district in Chhattisgarh. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed that he had hidden the stolen items at his grandmother’s house in village Kemla. Acting on his lead, police recovered the entire stolen property, including gold, silver, and cash. Recent state-wide successes In the past week, the Madhya Pradesh Police have also achieved major successes in Morena and Agar Malwa districts. Morena Police arrested seven inter-state criminals with a collective bounty of ₹30,000 each, recovering ₹4.53 lakh cash, gold, silver, weapons and vehicles worth over ₹20 lakh. Similarly, Agar Malwa Police cracked two major theft cases, seizing property worth ₹12 lakh and dismantling an inter-state gang. So far in October, the Madhya Pradesh Police have recovered stolen property valued at over ₹13.37 crore, including precious metals, cash, vehicles and electronic goods. DGP Makwana said that the police response to property crimes must be swift, accurate, and decisive, stressing both prompt arrests and maximum recovery of stolen assets. He added that strengthening surveillance and intelligence networks remains a key focus of the campaign.
