Man who fired at kiosk operator flees by train:3 police teams including crime branch sleuths launch manhunt; cops confident about his swift arrest

A firing incident in Bhopal’s Roshanpura area on Friday evening sent shockwaves across the city’s commercial hub. A man opened fire at an MP Online centre operator, injuring him slightly, before fleeing the scene, the police said. As of Saturday, a day after the incident, the accused still remains at large. According to Arera Hills police, the accused, identified as Deependra Gurjar, had earlier transferred ₹30,000 to an account and visited the shop to demand the money back. When the operator refused, Gurjar allegedly retrieved a rifle from his car and fired four rounds, one of which grazed the victim’s waist. Victim named Shyam Vijaywargiya The victim, Shyam Vijayvargiya (22), sustained a minor injury, the police said. Another bullet struck the glass façade of Akshay Jewellers, located nearby. The assailant then fled in a car registered in Bhind district, which had the ‘Police’ sticker pasted on it. Accused flees by train A case against the accused, Gurjar, was registered late Friday night at the Arera Hills Police Station, located barely 400 metres from the crime scene. By Saturday evening, the accused had not been arrested, though officials confirmed that three police teams, including members from the Crime Branch, are actively searching for him. Preliminary investigation revealed that Gurjar, who works as a driver, used his employer’s car during the incident and later escaped from Bhopal by train. The police said they are continuously tracking his mobile phone’s location and have expressed confidence that he shall be nabbed soon. Fear grips traders after the incident The shooting, which occurred in one of Bhopal’s busiest and high-profile commercial zones, caused panic among shopkeepers. Several jewellery stores and nearby shops shut down temporarily after the incident. The Rajbhawan (Governor’s House) is situated close to the site, highlighting the audacity of the crime and the need for enhanced vigilance in sensitive areas. Police have increased patrolling in and around Roshanpura area to maintain public safety.
