Team India ended their ODI series on a high note with a dominant nine-wicket win over Australia in the third and final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday. It was a memorable performance from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who shared an 168-run unbeaten stand to guide India to a comfortable victory while chasing a 237-run target. Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock, scoring an unbeaten 121, while Kohli supported him with a fluent 74 not out. Even though India had already lost the series, this win provided a morale boost for the young side under Shubman Gill’s leadership. After the match, Rohit and Kohli reflected emotionally on their journey and experiences in Australia, while Gill and other teammates praised their contributions. ‘Memories of the first Australia journey in 2008 came back’ – Rohit Player of the Series Rohit Sharma expressed deep nostalgia after the match. He said, “I have always loved coming to Australia and really enjoy playing at this ground (Sydney). Memories of my first Australia journey in 2008 came back. Don’t know if we will ever come here again or not, but I enjoyed every moment. Forgetting years of achievements, have always loved playing. I think Virat will say the same thing. Thanks to Australia.” Rohit added, “This is what you expect in Australia. It’s not easy to play here, the bowlers are very good. You have to understand the situation and conditions and do what you can do best. Although we didn’t win the series, there are many positive things. Our team is very young now. Many players have come to Australia for the first time.” Also read: Watch: Virat Kohli celebrates his first run after two ducks: Shreyas Iyer injures him while taking Superman catch He also emphasised the need for senior players to guide the younger ones, saying, “Now it’s our responsibility to provide proper guidance to young players. Playing abroad is never easy. It’s important to share whatever little experience we have gained.” ‘Sports always shows you new paths’ – Virat Reflecting on his performance, Virat Kohli said, “You can play international cricket for a long time, but the game always shows you new paths. I will be almost 37 years old in the next few days, but my best performance comes while chasing. It felt good to have a match-winning partnership with Rohit.” Kohli highlighted the bond between him and Rohit, adding, “We are probably now the most experienced pair. My and Rohit’s experience will come in handy. This all started against Australia in 2013. If we build a big partnership till 20 overs, it takes the team towards victory.” Also read: RO-KO light up Sydney with record-breaking show: Virat overtakes Tendulkar-Sangakkara in ODIs ‘Watching Rohit-Kohli bat is enjoyable’ – Gill Indian captain Shubman Gill praised his senior teammates and the team’s overall effort. He said, “We played almost the perfect match. Australia got off to a good start, but we turned the game in our favor in the middle overs. It was good to see how Harshit played. Our spinners performed brilliantly in the middle overs. Kohli and Rohit have been doing this for many years. It’s very enjoyable to watch both of them bat, especially when they complete the innings.”
