Australia has made several changes to its white-ball squads ahead of the T20I and ODI series against India, with Glenn Maxwell returning from injury and 20-year-old Mahli Beardman earning his first international call-up. The selectors continue to rotate players as they prepare for the upcoming home Ashes series against England, which begins on November 21. Maxwell, who fractured his wrist while bowling in the nets before the T20Is in New Zealand last month, is expected to play in the final three games of the five-match T20I series against India starting October 29 in Canberra. His comeback adds valuable experience and firepower to Australia’s middle order as the team looks to build momentum ahead of the home summer. At the same time, selectors have chosen to give some senior players more red-ball practice before the Ashes. Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott have been released to play Sheffield Shield cricket, allowing younger players and fresh faces to gain international experience in the white-ball formats. Maxwell set to return vs India, changes in ODI and T20I squads For the ODI series, Jack Edwards, the New South Wales captain, has been called up for the third ODI in Sydney, along with left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann, who returns after missing the Adelaide game. Marnus Labuschagne has been released to play for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. Inglis is likely to return for the third ODI in Sydney. Ben Dwarshuis will join for the fourth and fifth T20Is, while Hazlewood and Abbott will feature in the first few matches before shifting focus to red-ball duties. Beardman was part of Australia’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team last year, where he was named Player of the Final for his match-winning spell of 3 for 15. Despite having only five List A matches and two BBL games under his belt, Beardman has already impressed in domestic cricket this season with five wickets in two One-Day Cup games. His selection continues Australia’s trend of fast-tracking young talents such as Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, and Mitch Owen.
