BCCI has sent an email to Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, asking him to return the trophy. For the unversed, the ACC chief had refused to give Team India the Asia Cup trophy, which is still locked in his office in Dubai. The Indian team had won the trophy by defeating Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on September 28. After the victory, the Indian team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi. Then, before leaving for Pakistan, he left the trophy at the ACC office. Later, Naqvi had said that no one could touch the trophy without his consent. If Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav wishes, he can come to the ACC office and take the trophy. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia told India Today, “We have written an email to the ACC stating that the trophy should be given to the champion team. We are awaiting their response. If there is no response or if it is negative, we will write to the ICC about it.” What is the whole matter?
After the Asia Cup final, Naqvi, being the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, came to the presentation ceremony. Simon Doull, the presenter of the ceremony, said that the Indian team would not accept awards from him. The Indian team was ready to receive the trophy from any other ACC official, but Naqvi insisted on presenting the trophy himself. After this, the program was concluded, and Naqvi left the stage. He also took the trophy and medals with him. Before this, Indian players had not shaken hands with Pakistani players throughout the tournament. On the other hand, Pakistani players repeatedly made 6-0 gestures. They were repeating Pakistan’s false claim that Pakistan had shot down 6 Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. Naqvi had said – I was standing like a cartoon
After the Asia Cup final, BCCI had strongly protested in ACC’s Annual General Meeting against India not being given the trophy despite becoming champions. On this, Naqvi clarified, saying that he had not been informed in writing from anywhere that the Indian team would not take the trophy from him. Naqvi said, “I was just standing there like a cartoon for no reason.”
