The country’s largest private lender HDFC Bank earned a total of ₹91,041 crore in the second quarter of financial year 2025-26 (July-September 2025). Out of this income, the bank spent ₹63,117 crore on employee salaries, electricity bills, deposits and similar activities. After this, the bank was left with ₹18,641 crore as profit. In the same period last year, the bank had earned a profit of ₹16,821 crore. On an annual basis, this has increased by 11%. What is Non-Performing Asset or NPA? When an individual or institution takes a loan from a bank and does not repay it, it is called a bad loan or non-performing asset or NPA. This means there is very little hope of recovering these loans. As a result, banks lose money and go into losses. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, if a bank loan installment is not paid for 90 days i.e. three months, that loan is declared as NPA. For other financial institutions, this limit is 120 days. Banks have to do this to clear their books. How has the share performed in the past year? HDFC Bank released quarterly results on Saturday, 18 October, when the stock market is closed. Prior to this, on 17 October, the bank’s share closed 0.63% higher at ₹1,000. HDFC Banks share has given positive returns of 3% in the past month, 4% in 6 months and 19% in one year. The bank’s share has risen 12% this year i.e. from January 1 till now. The bank’s market cap is ₹7.68 lakh crore. HDFC Bank has over 9,092 branches in the country HDFC Bank provides banking and financial services. The bank’s founder is Hasmukh Parekh.
