Bhawarkuan police have registered an FIR against two students for spreading false news claiming that the principal of Holkar Science College in Indore had died. The fake news went viral on WhatsApp, creating confusion among staff and students. The students allegedly did this to delay exams. FIR filed by principal Holkar Science College Principal, Dr. Anamika Jain, submitted a written complaint to the police. She stated that the college is 134 years old and has around 12,000 students. False news on WhatsApp Police said Mayank Kachhawa of Scheme No. 78 and Himanshu Jaiswal of Malwa Mill, both BCA third-semester students, created the false news. They shared it widely on WhatsApp, claiming that the principal had passed away. Rumour spread quickly SI Neelmani Thakur said the message spread very fast. Many staff members and students became confused about the principal’s health and the scheduled exams. Principal clarifies the situation The CCA exam was planned for 15 October. On 14 October, the college’s administrative officer Dr. Nagesh, HOD Dr. Aparna, and a student named Aalekh contacted Dr. Jain to check on her. They told her that rumours about her death were circulating on WhatsApp. Dr. Jain then sent a message to all college staff clarifying that the news was false and misleading. Investigation reveals Culprits The investigation confirmed that Mayank and Himanshu were behind the false news. A formal complaint was lodged against them at the police station. The police are still investigating the case. Principal faces stress Dr. Anamika Jain said the incident caused her mental stress and trouble. She urged students not to spread rumours and to verify information before sharing it.
