With each passing day, the excitement continues to build in India as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gear up to return to action. The legendary duo will play their first match in Indian colours since March, during the first ODI against Australia on 19 October. The grind continues ahead of the ODI series opener in Perth as the BCCI shared visuals of Rohit and Virat working hard in the nets. India’s first practice session took place on Thursday, and the second practice session was on Friday morning. Meanwhile, Australia have suffered another blow ahead of the ODI series as all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the series. The Kangaroos have called up Marnus Labuschagne to replace Green. Ro-Ko’s potential last visit Down Under Hitman and Kohli were seen together sweating it out in the nets, where the stalwart batters showcased some of their batting skills as they middled the ball during the practice sessions. Sharma and Kohli were also seen honing their fielding skills, with Kohli practising short catches and Hitman working on his throwing technique. Since India last played a bilateral series against Australia in their home territory just before the ODI World Cup in 2023, ‘Ro-Ko’ have been sensational. Since then, Rohit has featured in 23 ODIs, scoring 1,137 runs at an average of 49.43 and an astonishing strike rate of 123.45, with two centuries and seven fifties. His best score is 131. Virat, on the other hand, has slammed 1,154 runs in 22 matches since then, averaging 64.11. While his strike rate is 88.56, including four centuries and nine fifties, with a best score of 117. The upcoming tour could be the last visit of the two legends Down Under. Australia’s squad marred by injuries Cameron Green will miss the series due to side soreness, with the selectors not ready to take a chance ahead of the Ashes beginning next month. His replacement Labuschagne, was not part of the initial squad but has been drafted in following his 159 in a Sheffield Shield game for Queensland on Thursday, his fourth hundred of the domestic season. It is the third forced change Australia have had to make for the first ODI against India, with Josh Phillippe replacing injured Josh Inglis and Matthew Kuhnemann set to play in place of Adam Zampa, who will miss the game due to personal reasons.
