A large protest erupted outside Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s official residence as Congress workers, led by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari, joined farmers to demand fair prices for crops instead of the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana. Farmers and Congress leaders take protest to Shivraj’s house About a dozen farmers, along with state Congress president Jitu Patwari and several party workers, arrived at Chouhan’s residence carrying sacks of wheat. They spread the grain on the road and sat outside the bungalow, symbolizing farmers’ grievances over low prices for crops like wheat, rice, and onions. The protest was prompted by discussions earlier at the Congress state office with farmers and state leaders, including Dharmendra Singh Chouhan, regarding the failure of the Bhavantar scheme to ensure fair compensation. See the pictures of the demonstration… March from PCC office, police tried to stop them After the meeting, Patwari and the protesters marched on foot from the Congress office toward the minister’s residence. Police set up barricades at Red Cross Chowrah to stop them, but the protesters repeatedly bypassed the blockade. Several vehicles were stationed on the road to stop them, yet Patwari and the group reached Chouhan’s house after multiple attempts. Union Minister meets Patwari amid protest Upon arrival, Shivraj Singh Chouhan personally stepped out and took Jitu Patwari and four to five other leaders inside for discussions. Meanwhile, other Congress workers tried to enter the premises carrying sacks of wheat on their shoulders. When police tried to stop them, a minor scuffle broke out, causing one wheat sack to tear and spill grain onto the road. Following this, the workers sat on the road in front of the minister’s residence, raising slogans and continuing their protest. After meeting Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jitu Patwari began leaving and apologized to the police stationed outside the bungalow. He said, If I have made any mistake, please forgive me. The BJP reacted sharply, accusing Patwari of using the farmers’ protest for political gain. BJP leader Hitesh Bajpai shared a photo of Patwari carrying a grain bag at the venue, commenting: “Look at Jitu Patwari’s setup—several audio mics attached to his kurta, with his PR team busy taking photos and videos. He had no concern for the farmers, leaving them outside while using them for political publicity.” Protest highlights farmers’ demand for direct payments The protest stressed farmers’ demand for direct price payments instead of the existing Bhavantar scheme. In defiance of police efforts, Congress workers staged a sit-in with wheat sacks overturned on the road, demonstrating the plight of farmers and urging the government to ensure fair crop prices.
