In a major operation ahead of Diwali, the Food Safety Department seized more than 3,000 kilograms of adulterated mawa and ghee from two buses arriving from Gwalior and Ahmedabad. The raid, conducted near Piplihana Square service road, was led by food safety officer Avashesh Agrawal. Officials found 16 sacks of mawa, approximately one tonne of ghee, and hundreds of kilograms of sweet mawa being transported for distribution in local sweet markets. The total estimated value of the seized consignment is between Rs 8 to Rs 10 lakh. Preliminary tests raised serious doubts about the quality and purity of the items, which were meant for use in festive sweets. Samples sent for laboratory analysis All seized materials have been sealed and samples sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory for further examination. Officials confirmed that strict legal action will follow if adulteration or violation of safety standards is confirmed in the reports. This operation is part of an intensified campaign to safeguard consumers from adulterated and poor-quality food products during Diwali. said FSO Agrawal. Parallel raids across the city Just days earlier, food safety officials seized 2,754 kilograms of unlicensed sweets worth Rs 6.9 lakh from Ahuja Milk Products in Prem Nagar. The products, including Rajwadi Sweets and Krishna Halwa sourced from Gujarat-based Shri Krishna Barfi Sweets, lacked valid food licenses and mandatory labelling. Samples of these sweets were also sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhopal. In another action, a raid at Sarwate Bus Stand led to the seizure of 600 kilograms of unclaimed sweets from an auto-rickshaw. The driver could not produce any ownership details, and the consignment was placed under custody pending investigation. Tight vigil to prevent adulteration during Diwali The Food Safety Department has intensified inspections across sweet shops, dairies, and transport hubs to curb adulteration during the festive rush. Officials warned that such substandard food products can pose serious health risks. The department is keeping close watch on traders dealing in dairy and sweet items. Any adulteration or sale of unsafe food will invite severe penalties. said an official statement.
