A shocking incident has come to light at the Balaghat Kotwali Police Station, where Rs 55 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh went missing from the police station’s locker. The in-charge of the locker reportedly lost the money gambling. The discovery was made when a complainant visited the station to retrieve her money. An FIR is being registered against the locker in-charge. Balaghat IG Sanjay Kumar confirmed to Dainik Bhaskar that cash and gold-silver jewellery are missing from the Kotwali locker. Police are in the process of registering an FIR and investigating the matter. Money seized earlier in a fraud case According to preliminary information, the money and jewellery had been seized by the police in a fraud case. The locker had been holding ₹55 lakh cash and some gold and silver jewellery from the case. A female complainant, after completing court procedures, approached the Station In-Charge (TI) to collect her money. The TI asked the locker in-charge to bring the money, but he locked the locker from inside.
