Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav believes the old saying that “if you study, you’ll become a nawab, and if you play sports, you’ll be ruined” no longer holds. He shared that while his father initially wanted him to become an engineer, his passion for cricket was always stronger. Recognizing his talent, his father supported him fully, allowing Suryakumar to follow his dreams. He encouraged children to focus on both studies and sports, assuring them that parents are often the first to notice their true abilities. Suryakumar spoke at the ‘Seva Wali Diwali’ event held at the Brilliant Convention Centre on Monday night. The program, organised by the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO), offered a platform for the cricket star to inspire young audiences while sharing his experiences and thoughts on balancing education and sports. During the event, Suryakumar also praised the city of Indore and its people, giving both a perfect 10 out of 10. He shared anecdotes from the dressing room, giving fans a glimpse of the lighter and more personal side of his life as a cricketer. My father is my role model, who used to take me to the ground for 2 to 3 hours of practice every morning and evening.” He credited his father’s guidance and support for shaping his cricketing journey from a very young age. Speaking about his inspirations in cricket, Suryakumar said, “I grew up watching Sachin Tendulkar as my role model in cricket. My father would turn off the TV when Sachin sir got out. I can never forget that moment when I wore the Indian jersey and cap for the first time after years of hard work.” These memories highlight the dedication and passion that fueled his rise to the national team.
