A 43-year-old woman, employed as a teacher, died by suicide after allegedly jumping from the terrace of a two-storey building following a dispute with her live-in partner in Bhopal’s Ratibad area on Sunday morning, the police reported on Monday. The incident, according to the police, took place in front of a police team, which was attempting to pacify her, and persuade her into stepping down for nearly half an hour. Despite their efforts, the woman suddenly jumped. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Woman who died identified as Sunita Chauhan Ratibad police station in-charge RB Sharma told Bhaskar English that the woman who took the drastic step has been identified as Sunita Chauhan (43), a native of Itarsi. She was employed as a school teacher. Her husband, Ajay Chauhan, had passed away around eight years ago. Recently, Sunita had moved to Bhopal to live with her alleged live-in partner, and the two had been staying in a rented house in Ratibad for the past eight days. Argument precedes suicide The police came to know that on Sunday, at around 6:30 AM, Sunita had a heated argument with her partner. In distress, she left the house and climbed onto the terrace of a nearby under-construction building. As locals gathered, someone informed the police. A team from Ratibad police station reached the scene immediately and tried to calm her down. For nearly 30 minutes, the cops continued to counsel her, urging her to come down. However, despite their repeated attempts, she suddenly lost balance and jumped from the terrace. The police personnel quickly took her to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Station in-charge Sharma said that the police have registered a case and have begun delving into the details of the incident.
