A section of the road near Bilkhiriya, Bhopal, measuring approximately 100 meters, collapsed on Monday afternoon, prompting authorities to close one lane for safety. The affected road, managed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), is a vital link connecting Indore, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Mandla, and Sagar. Incident details The collapse occurred between 12 PM and 1 PM, near a bridge section on the route from Mandideep to Eetkhedi. Fortunately, no vehicles or pedestrians were passing at the time, avoiding any casualties. A video of the retaining wall collapse has surfaced, showing the damaged road. Ram Babu Chaudhary, in-charge of Sukhi Sewania Police Station, said traffic has been diverted following the collapse, and police personnel have been deployed at the site to manage the situation. First, look at 3 pictures of the retaining wall collapse… Now see 3 pictures of the sunken road… Clarification on road jurisdiction Earlier reports suggested that the bridge and road were under NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) jurisdiction. However, an NHAI official clarified: The collapse occurred near the village Kalyanpur railway bridge, about 100 meters ahead towards Bilkhiriya under Sukhi Sewania. This road is not under our jurisdiction; it falls under the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC). PWD Minister Comments on Road Conditions Three months ago, Madhya Pradesh PWD Minister Rakesh Singh addressed concerns regarding poor road conditions and potholes in the state, saying: Currently, no technology exists that can guarantee a road will never develop potholes. As long as roads exist, potholes will form. He added that it becomes problematic when roads, which are expected to remain in good condition for four years, develop potholes within six months. Singh emphasized that authorities are making their best possible efforts, but no road is entirely immune to damage over time. Impact on commuters The collapsed road is a major artery for intercity travel, and the incident may cause traffic delays until repair work is completed. Authorities are urging commuters to use alternative routes and exercise caution near the affected area.
