A 20-year-old software engineer, Udit Gayaki, died after being brutally beaten by two constables in Bhopal. The post-mortem report confirmed that he died due to trauma and pancreas damage. The police officers involved, Santosh Bamnia and Saurabh Arya, were suspended and later taken into custody. The incident has sparked outrage, with Udit’s family demanding strict action and compensation. Murder case registered A murder case has been registered against Constables Santosh Bamnia and Saurabh Arya. Both were taken into custody late on Saturday night. They are currently under interrogation. The post-mortem report clearly stated that Udit’s death was caused by severe beating. The beating incident The incident took place late on Thursday night around 1:30 AM in the Piplani police station area. CCTV footage shows both constables beating Udit with a stick. After the beating, he fell unconscious. Friends rushed him to a nearby hospital. Doctors said his chances of survival were just 1%, and he was then taken to AIIMS, where he was declared dead. Post-mortem report findings A team of five doctors conducted the post-mortem. The report states that Udit died of traumatic haemorrhagic pancreatitis. This means the pancreas was severely injured, causing internal bleeding. The report also mentioned tram-track pattern injuries, indicating Udit was beaten with a stick or rod. Injury marks were found in 16 places on his body, including the forehead, shoulder, waist, abdomen, back of the head, and near the ear. Samples from his body, including blood, tissue, and nail clippings, have been sent for forensic testing. Friends reveal policemen demanded money According to Udit’s friend Akshat, the policemen demanded Rs 10,000 from him and others while beating Udit. They ignored their pleas and continued hitting him. Udit vomited several times during the attack. His friends immediately took him to a hospital and then to AIIMS, but he could not be saved. Police statement DCP Zone 2 Vivek Singh said both constables admitted to beating Udit but claimed it was not intended to cause death. They stated that Udit ran after seeing them, which made them suspicious. The constables have been suspended, and a murder case is now registered based on CCTV footage and allegations from Udit’s family. Victim’s family background Udit was the only son of his parents. His father, Rajkumar Gayaki, is an engineer at MCB Sukhi Sewania, and his mother is a teacher. He had a younger sister studying in school. Udit had completed his B.Tech from VIT Aashta and had been living in Bengaluru for three months, looking for a job. He had come to Bhopal just three days before to collect documents. His family is in shock over his sudden death. Protests at Piplani police station Udit’s family created a huge ruckus at Piplani police station on Friday evening. They demanded that a murder case be filed against the constables. Former minister and Congress leader Sukhdev Panse joined the protest. Panse said the incident has brought shame to Madhya Pradesh. He alleged that unemployed youths were being asked for Rs 10,000 by police, and when they refused, they were beaten. He demanded that the guilty policemen be dismissed and Udit’s family be compensated Rs 5 crore.
