Woman tied and beaten by in-laws on Karwachauth in Narsinghpur:’I refused their demand, they attacked me,’ says victim, assaulted over dowry and property claim

In Narsinghpur, a woman who arrived at her in-laws’ house to break her Karwa Chauth fast was beaten by her husband and in-laws. The victim alleges that her in-laws dragged her and then tied her with a rope. First, her husband beat her with a stick, and then other people also assaulted her. The woman was beaten so severely that marks appeared all over her body. The woman has been admitted to the district hospital in serious condition. The incident is from the Chichli area. Deepa Kaurav, a resident of Gadarwara, was first married to Satyam of Narsinghpur at Gayatri Temple on May 21, 2024. On the same day, both also registered their marriage. The victim says that everything was fine for the first one or two months, after which her husband and in-laws started harassing her. They started demanding dowry from her parents’ family. Deepa alleged that the period of harassment by in-laws started after her father’s death. The victim stated in the complaint application, “My father had two houses, two plots, agricultural land, and some bank balance. A month after my father’s death, my in-laws asked me to transfer half of my father’s property to their name. When I refused, they started beating me. Fed up with the harassment, I came to my maternal home and started living there for about 6 months.” Mother wanted my home not to break
Victim Deepa says that her mother did not want her home to break. Therefore, she sent her to her in-laws’ house for Karva Chauth on the evening of October 10, 2025. I reached here around 7 PM. A little while later, my in-laws started abusing me.
