2 killed, several injured in Jabalpur Durga immersion accident:High-tension wire contact causes electrocution; locals allege warnings ignored by civic administration

A truck carrying a Durga idol for immersion in Jabalpur collided with an electric wire. Two youths died on the spot due to electrocution. Meanwhile, more than 10 people were seriously burned. After the accident, there was a stampede. People abandoned the idol and ran helter-skelter. The incident occurred in Bhita village on Sunday night around 9 PM. People were taking the idol of Mother Durga in a truck for Durga immersion to Gwarighat on the Narmada River. People present there took the injured to the district hospital. The deceased include Chintu Vishwakarma (24) and Akhilesh Patel (27). The injured include Hakku Patel, Tara Patel (16), Ballu Vishwakarma (50), Nitin Patel (24), Mohit Patel (26), and Kapil Patel (28). Both youths were sitting on top of the truck
A large number of people were going from Temar Bhita to immerse the Durga idol, dancing to the tunes of the DJ. As soon as the idol reached near Bhita village, the 11 KV power line hanging above came into contact with the truck. Chintu Vishwakarma and Akhilesh Patel, who were sitting on top of the truck, fell down. Friends took them to the hospital. Doctors declared them dead. Both youths used to do private jobs. MLA and Minister Rakesh reached the hospital
Upon receiving information about the incident, Ashok Rohani, MLA from Cantt Assembly, reached the hospital. He informed that three people have been seriously burnt. They have been admitted to a private hospital. The rest of the people are being treated at the district hospital. The incident is tragic. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Minister Rakesh said – 11 people were injured
Upon receiving information about the incident, Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh reached the district hospital around 12 AM to see the injured. He said that during Durga Visarjan, when people living in Temar Bhita were going to Gauri Ghat, the structure accompanying the idol came into contact with an electric cable, due to which this incident occurred. Minister Rakesh Singh informed that so far 11 people have been reported injured in this incident. Two have died. Vikas Kumar of Bhita village said that one idol was near the Kali Mata culvert and another was kept in Bhita village. Two trucks were going one after another. As soon as the idol reached near Bhita village, it came into contact with the overhead dangling wire. The administration is responsible for the incident. The councilor was informed even before Navratri, but he did not pay attention to the complaint. Councilor Said – The idol’s height was too much
Local councilor Krishna Das Chaudhary said that the idol’s height was too much. The workers had decorated it excessively. As soon as the idol reached the turning, it suddenly came to the roadside and then, getting caught in the high tension line, this accident occurred.
