Toll plaza employees beaten in Shahdol:Workers assaulted in front of municipal vice-president; victim says, ‘BJP leader encouraged attack’

On the Shahdol-Rewa State Highway, toll workers at Mhow toll plaza in Beohari were severely assaulted on Sunday around 2 PM. BJP leader and Beohari Municipal Council President Rajan Gupta allegedly watched from a nearby tent. After the attack, some youths tried to break the boom barrier. The employees locked themselves in rooms and called the police, coming out only after their arrival. Police are investigating using CCTV footage. Toll worker Ankit said that when the youths were dragging the toll worker, BJP leaders were shouting from inside the tent, Beat him properly, we won’t let anything happen, we will get everyone released. Gupta was sitting on a hunger strike near the toll plaza with the Truck Owners Association. He says that the construction of the toll plaza has been done against the rules. They assaulted a truck driver, in response to which the truck drivers collectively engaged in a dispute. We have nothing to do with that fight. We are protesting the activity of toll operation.
