A fruit vendor in Rajpur, Barwani district, has been arrested for allegedly spraying dirty drain water on fruits. Locals caught him on Thursday, beat him up, and handed him over to the police. A video of the incident surfaced on Saturday (October 4). Residents said the vendor, Iqbal Khan, had been spraying dirty water on fruits for a long time despite warnings. They added that the fruits were often bought for worship and temple offerings, but he refused to stop the practice. People filmed and caught the vendor According to the police, Iqbal Khan (52), a resident of Khaskas Wadi in Khargone, was selling apples at the Rajpur Haat market. A video showed him sprinkling dirty drain water on the fruits. Local residents recorded the act on video and caught him on the spot. Restrictive action has also been taken against him. He was presented before the Rajpur SDM court, which sent him to jail under judicial custody. Dirty water and apple samples sent for testing Notably, Food Safety Department was informed about the incident and has been sent samples of dirty water and apples for testing. Officials stated the vendor did not have a valid licence, and separate action has been taken against him for that violation. Further action will be decided based on the investigation report. Warning about health risks Officials warned that using contaminated water on fruits and vegetables can lead to infections, increasing the risk of serious diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.
