Mourning grips the villages of Ujjain after a tractor-trolley accident in the Chambal River. The cries of grieving families fill Pirzalar village, where some fathers are still unaware of their sons’ deaths, and others say they will no longer install idols in the future. So far, three children have died in the accident, while two others, Ansh and Aditya, are receiving treatment at Choithram Hospital in Indore. Among the deceased, Prithviraj (16), son of Dinesh Chauhan, and Vansh (8), son of Arjun Chauhan, were declared dead at the hospital. Accident occurred during idol immersion The accident occurred around noon on Thursday when villagers from Pirzalar arrived at the Chambal River with a tractor-trolley for goddess idol immersion. After the immersion, a child accidentally turned the key, causing the vehicle to move and fall into the river. Twelve children fell into the water, and 11 were rescued; the body of the missing child was later recovered. The body of missing Shubham Chauhan (16) could be recovered around 9 am on Friday morning. After this, Shubham’s last rites were performed on Friday afternoon. When Dainik Bhaskar team reached the village and talked to his family members, their pain overflowed. Father still doesn’t know about son’s death Notably, the houses of three children who died in the village are just 100 meters apart. When our team reached the village, the second house at the entrance was of deceased Shubham. Vansh’s house is in front of this house and Prithvi Raj’s house is a little further ahead. Crying sounds surround all houses Crying can be heard from all three affected houses. The first stop was Vansh’s home, where his father, Arjun, was not present. Family member Jeevan Singh Parmar said Arjun is in Indore, receiving treatment for his other son, Ansh. Even after more than 24 hours, the family has not been informed of Vansh’s death; they only know he was being treated in Ujjain and believed he was fine. After the tractor fell, elder son Vansh died on the spot, while Ansh was admitted to the hospital in serious condition, said Jeevan Singh. Father inconsolable after son’s death At the home of deceased Prithviraj, father Dinesh Chauhan is inconsolable over the loss of his 16-year-old son. Uncle Jay Chauhan said Prithviraj was highly intelligent, scoring over 90 percent each year, excelling in other activities, and was the only son of the family with a younger sister. He had participated in the idol immersion every year and left home on Thursday expecting to return soon. Villagers decide to not install idols anymore Grief-stricken by the deaths of three children, the villagers have decided to end a 25-year-old tradition and will no longer install the Mata idol at this site. Three lives saved by jumping from the tractor Three lives were saved when they jumped from the tractor just seconds before it fell into the river. Deceased Shubham’s younger brother Tanush Chauhan, along with Karan and Amit, were sitting at the back of the trolley during the idol immersion. Tanush said the tractor started moving forward as soon as someone turned the key. Within seconds, it broke through the railing and plunged into the river. Shouting to jump, Tanush, Amit, and Karan leapt from the back, saving their lives as the tractor sank before them. Damaged railing repaired ahead of CM’s visit Notably, the bridge railing, damaged when the tractor-trolley fell into river, was repaired ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit. Within 24 hours of the incident, a six-member team arrived with welding machines to fix it. Collector Roshan Singh and SP Pradeep Sharma also inspected the site during this time.
