The centrepiece of Asia Cup trophy row, Mohsin Naqvi, has received backlash from his own people after Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia had called Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief’s actions ‘unsportsmanlike’. In the latest development to the Asia Cup row, Naqvi has now apologised to BCCI on his refusal to let the Indian side celebrate with the Asia Cup trophy. He took a softer stance during the Asian Cricket Council(ACC) meet, as per an India Today report. Naqvi expressed regret over his actions post India’s Asia Cup victory Naqvi has expressed regret to the BCCI, acknowledging that the situation should not have escalated the way it did after the final, as per reports. Notably, after the Indian team refused to receive the trophy and medals directly from Naqvi after winning the final, the ACC chief denied them the traditional presentation ceremony. Instead, Naqvi had instructed ACC officials to remove the trophy and medals from the ground altogether. Earlier BCCI secretary had given harsh criticism to Mohsin Naqvi’s actions during ACC meeting on September 30. BCCI secretary’s crude response to PCB chief on Asia Cup Trophy row Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board and its chief for not letting the Indian team celebrate with the Asia Cup trophy. He had mocked Mohsin Naqvi for his actions as he said, “We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision.” “This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible, ” the BCCI secretary further added. Since the Asia Cup has concluded, the PCB chief’s controversial actions have further strained the cricket relations of two nations, with Asia Cup trophy and medals still in the possession of the Asian Cricket Council so far reportedly.
