naqvi-‘hasn’t-agreed-to-give-asia-cup-trophy’-to-india:bcci-raises-objection-in-asian-cricket-council-meeting-but-no-clarity-on-when-the-silverware-will-reach-men-in-blue

The Asia Cup trophy continues to lie in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) office after India were denied the silverware during Sunday’s post-final ceremony in Dubai. The Indian players refused to take the trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s cricket board chief and a minister in the Pakistan government. BCCI voices anger in AGM At the ACC’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar raised what they described as a “strong objection” over the matter. According to an ACC source cited by news agency PTI, the Indian delegation made it clear that the episode had caused embarrassment and undermined the sanctity of the tournament. ‘Trophy belongs to the team, not an individual’ “Shuklaji categorically said that the trophy should be handed over to the winning team. It is an ACC trophy and doesn’t belong to an individual,” the source told PTI, emphasising that India’s stance was firm. Naqvi stands his ground Despite India’s protest, sources said Naqvi “still hasn’t agreed to give the trophy.” His defiance has added to the controversy, leaving uncertainty over when or how the silverware will reach the victorious squad. Historic ninth title in limbo India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final to claim their record-extending ninth continental crown. But unlike previous triumphs, the winning team is yet to pose with the official trophy- an unprecedented situation that continues to spark debate.
