Former domestic cricketer Mithun Manhas has become the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This was announced on Sunday after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the BCCI office in Mumbai. He was elected unopposed to this post. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketers Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh have been appointed as national selectors. BCCI’s new office-bearers take charge Mithun Manhas will lead the BCCI administration as the president of the board, while Rajeev Shukla has been re-elected as the vice-president. Devajit Saikia has also been re-elected as the Honourary Secretary while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia assumed the role of joint-secretary. Union Minister Jitendra Singh congratulated Mithun Manhas by posting on X. He wrote – Mithun Manhas has officially become the President of BCCI. Played in JK’s Under-15 Team Manhas played Under-15, Under-16, and Under-19 for Jammu and Kashmir. He played Under-19 for JK for 3 years. In 1995, he scored approximately 750 runs and became the country’s highest Under-19 scorer. Later, he became the captain of the JK team. Due to this performance, he was selected for the North Zone. Playing in it, Manhas made his own identity. His name became well-known in junior cricket. After taking his 12th-grade exams, Manhas came to Delhi for the first time for a few months. He was 17 years old then. Here, he participated in Delhi’s premier tournament and started playing from there. In that era, legends like Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra played in the Delhi team. Due to his good performance in the Delhi tournament, he was selected for the Under-19 National Team. Then, in 1996, he was selected for the Delhi team in the Ranji Trophy. However, he didn’t play any match. Then, the following year, in 1997, he made his Ranji debut for Delhi. Became captain of Delhi Ranji team and won the trophy Manhas consistently performed well for the Delhi team, solidifying his place in the middle order. In the 2001-02 season, he became one of the first players to score 1000+ runs in the Ranji Trophy. He then captained the Delhi Ranji team from 2006 to 2008. Under his captaincy, Delhi won the 2007–08 Ranji Trophy. This was the Delhi team’s 16th Ranji Trophy title. IPL debut with Delhi Daredevils Due to his good performance in Ranji, Manhas was selected for the first season of IPL. He made his IPL debut with Delhi Daredevils in 2008. Then in 2011, he joined Pune Warriors India in the IPL. In 2015, he became a part of the Chennai Super Kings team. Became a coach after retirement He entered coaching after retiring in 2017. He joined IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings XI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as support staff. Later, he was part of the coaching staff with Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Served as Director of JK Cricket Association In 2023, Manhas became the Director of Cricket Operations at the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). He contributed to strengthening the JK cricket structure. Additionally, he worked on preparing players for domestic cricket.
