Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced plans to both share and receive wildlife species with other states to enhance Madhya Pradesh’s forest diversity. He emphasized that efforts should be made to bring the one-horned rhinoceros from Assam to enrich the state’s wildlife population. At the 30th State Wildlife Board meeting, the Chief Minister also revealed that Madhya Pradesh will provide three pairs of tigers to Odisha, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh as part of a wildlife exchange initiative. Focus on wildlife branding and promotion Highlighting the state’s rich biodiversity, CM Yadav stressed the need for proper branding of Madhya Pradesh’s unique flora and fauna. He called for short films, documentaries, and promotional content to be created in collaboration with the Indian Film Division, Discovery Channel, and other platforms to showcase the state’s forests to a global audience. “Our natural heritage should be known to the world. It’s time to showcase our strengths and preserve them,” Yadav said. He also directed officials to prepare for releasing aquatic species such as crocodiles, turtles, gharials, and dolphins into the state’s rivers to further enhance ecological balance and biodiversity. Key officials present The meeting was attended by Forest and Environment Minister of State Dilip Ahirwar, along with several senior officials and board members, including: Board members Mohan Nagar, Rupnarayan Mandwe, Mahendra Singh Chauhan, Dr. Sudesh Baghmare, Dr. Ravichandran, and others were also present. MP to send Tiger pairs to Odisha, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh During the State Wildlife Board meeting, detailed discussions were held on transferring three pairs of tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Odisha, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that while the state shares its wildlife with others, it should also receive species from these states to further enrich Madhya Pradesh’s biodiversity. Proposals for wildlife conservation Board member Dr. Alok Kumar suggested creating additional conservation reserves in the state. One proposal includes establishing a new reserve in the Panna and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve areas. Another suggestion involves incorporating the Sonewani Forest Range of Balaghat district into the Kanha-Bandhavgarh conservation corridor. He noted that taking concrete decisions on these proposals would mark a major step forward for wildlife conservation in Madhya Pradesh. Gajaraksak app to protect Human-Elephant coexistence CM Dr. Yadav directed officials to take measures to prevent accidents and conflicts caused by wild elephants. Additional PCCF Krishnamurthy reported the development of an AI-based “Gajaraksak” app, which monitors elephant movements and sends alerts to villagers when elephants approach human settlements. This initiative also includes collaring elephants and forming Elephant Friend Teams in districts and forest divisions where elephants roam, ensuring safer human-elephant coexistence. Board’s achievements were presented to CM Additional PCCF Krishnamurthy, while providing information about the MP State Wildlife Board, said that the Kharmor Sanctuary Sardarpur has been restructured. This has permanently resolved the land purchase-sale problem of people from 14 revenue villages in the area. International Tiger Day was celebrated in Bhopal on July 29. In the state, 14 rescue squads and 16 dog squads, and for transportation of Gaur Barasingha etc., 6 special wildlife transport and 3 rescue vehicles including dog squad vehicles have been inaugurated. Jahangad Sanctuary was formed. This is the 26th sanctuary of the state. In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, a giant tiger statue was constructed from iron scrap material in 23 tiger reserves. In the National Chambal Sanctuary this year so far, chicks have hatched from 86 nests in Nadigaon, 32 in Barauli, 20 in Babu Singh Gher, 16 in Dang Vasai, 7 in Raidi and 5 nests in Bhara.
