Bhopal’s Hanumanganj police on Friday collared a 25-year-old man on charges of transporting narcotics near Paan Mandi on Samantar Road in the city, the police said. According to the police, the accused, identified as Rahul Gujarati, was found in possession of 3.220 kg of cannabis worth Rs 30 thousand. Operation carried out following tip-off Hanumanganj police station in-charge Awadhesh Singh Bhadoria said that the police received a tip-off about a man approaching from the station side with a school backpack on Friday. Acting swiftly, the cops cordoned off the area and apprehended the suspect. Upon interrogation, he said he is a resident of a shanty, behind a government school, under Gandhi Nagar police station limits. Cannabis recovered from backpack During a search of the pink and black backpack, the police personnel found two polythene bags, one white and the other blue. Inside were green, seed-laden dried leaves. Based on appearance, odour, and experience, the substance was identified as cannabis. The total weight, including packaging, amounted to 3.220 kg. Legal action initiated The narcotics were seized, and the accused was booked under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Thereafter, the accused was taken into custody for further investigation. Accused previously too booked under NDPS Act While sifting through his criminal record, the police learnt that the arrested individual had previously too been booked under NDPS Act at Hanumanganj Police Station. The authorities are now investigating whether he has further links to illegal drug trafficking networks.
