Carrefour, the Gulf’s biggest supermarket chain, exits Kuwait to become HyperMax in four countries

Carrefour has exited Kuwait as of September 16, 2025, completing its withdrawal from four GCC markets within a year. Majid Al Futtaim, its regional operator, is replacing it with HyperMax, a fully owned grocery brand focused on local sourcing and SME partnerships. The shift marks MAF’s strategic move from franchised retail to a regionally integrated, self-operated model.
