Devastating floods in Punjab have significantly hampered efforts to expand the state’s diminishing green cover, resulting in the loss of 4,94,956 trees across 776 hectares. With forest cover already low at 3.7% of its geographical area, the floods have deepened Punjab’s ecological stress and caused an estimated damage of over Rs 360.5 lakh to the forest and wildlife preservation department.
